Frequently Asked Questions

Why was Living History Natchez created?

To offer a more inclusive, community rooted and professionally curated approach to sharing Natchez’s rich and layered history. We use thoughtful research and outreach to engage new audiences, uplift local homeowners, and expand how Natchez tells its story, acknowledging the lives, labor and craftsmanship of enslaved people and their descendants who shaped this place.

What makes Living History Natchez different?

We are an independent collective led by homeowners and residents. We are not a legacy garden club or tour group. Our tours and events blend historical depth with personal storytelling, offer fresh perspectives, and prioritize authentic hospitality. We work alongside local organizations, civic groups, cultural leaders, and preservation partners with a shared goal: to promote Natchez, honor its complex past, celebrate its many voices and histories, and help shape a vibrant, welcoming future.

What kinds of homes are included?

The homes we will feature on tour include some of Natchez’s most iconic historic treasures. From early Natchez District homes and antebellum landmarks to hidden architectural jewels, which are all lovingly cared for by homeowners passionate about preservation, education, and authentic hospitality.

What kinds of experiences will visitors have?

Visitors can expect more than traditional house walk-throughs. Offerings will include guided storytelling that highlights both the families who lived in these homes and the enslaved people whose hands built, maintained, and animated them. Visitors will see behind-the-scenes restorations, period reenactments, cultural seminars, music events, and culinary tastings or historic food demonstrations. All of these experiences are designed to foster deeper connections to Natchez’s interwoven history, architecture, and living culture.

When will the first tours launch?

Spring is our debut season. Join us March 12–19 and March 19–21 for can't miss immersive tours and events that bring Natchez to life. Seats are limited. Book early.

Who benefits from this effort?

We serve the whole Natchez community: homeowners, preservationists, local businesses, artists, educators, and visitors. We strengthen cultural tourism, support local jobs, and spark pride. We celebrate Natchez heritage and honor the full breadth of those who shaped this place, including stories long left out, while adding to its social, cultural, and economic vitality.
